Wash and go for fine natural hair

Step 1

Step away from the heavy products! I know, I get it. You see the video online and everyone is using at least 3 styling products, including a gel. However, with fine natural hair nothing weighs the hair down more than heavy products. Easier to curl hair with too heavy products tend to look like a dog that just got out of the bath.

Step 2

Start with light weight light hold products. Light weight styling wash n go products like styling foams or mousses and lightweight curl creams.

Step 3

Dry using a diffuser. Using a diffuser and scrunching the curls up creates more volume. I normally recommend that clients sit under the dryer to set the hair products in place immediately. However, I do not recommend someone with thin curly hair to do the same at home.  Sitting under the dryer (unless clipped at the roots, as seen in the video) dries the fine hair in a flat state.

In this video from instagram you will see that I use two products on this client with high porosity fine 2c hair.

My professional product recommendations are:
  1. Cleanse with Grapefruit Cleansing Foam
  2. Condition with Grapefruit Conditioning Cream
  3. Towel dry with a microfiber towel.
  4. On wet hair apply Creme de la curls all over. Make sure the product is evenly distributed throughout the hair. You do not need to see product on your hair. You want to achieve the soft curls feel.
  5. Section the hair using alligator clips. Alligator hair clips are great for securing long but thin natural hair
  6. Apply Macadamia Oil Styling Foam in small sections. This styling mousse has light to medium hold and is lightweight enough to define the hair without weighing fine natural hair down.
  7. Diffuse and dry with Ion Hair Dryer. The blow dryer with diffuser attachment dries your hair, keeps our curls in place without the frizz!
