Do you know how to use properly natural hair products?
Knowing how to use natural hair products properly for your hair is, in my professional opinion, THE most important part of this journey.
You can buy the best natural hair products (mine!) on the market but if you do not know how to use them they will seem like the worst products ever!
At my natural hair salon, Gorgeous Strands, in Houston, TX, I have worked with thousands of struggling naturals over the years. What I have learned is most of them expect to buy a product and the product does the rest. It does not work like that. You have to have some know-how. Know-how takes practice. Not just trying something once or twice and resting with "it does not work for me." Imagine in life we tried something once or twice and simply gave up. We'd never accomplish anything.
If you are still struggling with your natural hair it's ok. We have all been there. Give yourself some grace. Be patient with your hair. If you like the way your curls look when wet, with the proper technique and products, you will love the way they look when dry. |
Here are some tips:
- Section the hair off. The thicker the hair is the more sections you need. For exact the lady in the reel I start with 7 sections and then part into subsections when it is time to apply products.
- Apply a small amount of products in small sections. Seems like number 1, right? Well it is not. All too many times people will try to get the process over with by applying a large amount of products in a large section. For thicker coiler hair, this is not a good options.
- Dry the hair immediately. I know some people like the walk around with wet hair to air dry. However, it is super important to "lock" the product in now for the hold to stay. Not locking the product in immediately leaves from for the frizz to return and lets be honest some people get the touches when their hair is wet.
